During the test, gaskets are subjected to temperatures of up to 450 degrees Celsius and pressures that averaged 7,250 psi through a heated hydraulic press. The results are obtained from the gasket's decrease of thickness during the test.
Once a gasket has passed the hot compression test, and the results published, it is put into production.
Gaskets are often associated with the term, "head gasket," as this is a pivotal part of a car's engine and very often the reason for an expensive repair or trip to the scrapheap.

As far as muscle cars go the 409 engine is at the top of the list for any collector.    We found this 1962 Chevy SS Impala with a 409 engine in the Seattle Car Show.  It is a true SS Impala with white bucket seats and center console.  The car was done in my favourite color Blue Indigo in various shades with a dense metallic and was so impressive.  The white interior had all new panels, roof liner, carpet and dash was like new.  The body was laser straight and had many hours boarding before any paint was applied.  All chrome inside and out was cleaned up to look like new or replaced.  The bumpers were new along with the emblems and mouldings.

This 1962 Chevy Impala SS was completely restored from the ground up.  The 409 engine freshened up and produced an impressive 425 HP.  The 409 engine in 1962 Impala was improved over the previous years with the adding newly designed cylinder heads.  This particular engine was fantastic with a set of dual carter carburetors, lumpy camshaft with the solid lifters and lots of chrome.  The transmission was a 3 speed automatic with 4:11 gears and posi track rear end for those impressive launches.   Chevrolet manufactured over 100,000 SS 1962 but only 15,000 were available with the 409 engine making it a true collector.    I always found the Impala to be not so aerodynamic and in a more luxury car class that dad would drive.   However, at the end of the show we had a chance to go for a run and it was then I realized the Impala was most definitely a true muscle car.
