Most people are aware that giving blood can help save the life of others. In fact, there are certain times of the year where the calls are made for people to donate blood to cover the deficit. What you may not be aware is another type of blood donation has started to gain popularity. What is this new type of blood donation that I am referring? Umbilical cord blood from newborn babies. The blood found in the discarded umbilical cord is full of vital cells that may be the cure for many diseases.
The umbilical cord and placenta was viewed by very different people around the world. In some cultures, it is imminent, while others regarded it as medical waste. The medical world today it is considered a treasure full of live-saving cells. Many researchers working on the disease fighting hard for the cord blood preserved and used for research purposes. So what all the fuss about? After all,  Stem cells are indeed the building blocks for all body parts - skin, blood, nerves and of course our bodies. That is what has excited interest in the scientific community. When stem cells are the building blocks of our bodies - they are used to "grow" organs for transplant. Imagine the body which is grown in a laboratory. They are never been exposed to poverty, pollution or other against the environment that man to man transplant have.
