Many of us don’t stop to think about the issue of public health. You may have gone your entire life taking this entity for granted because it was never anything that you had to give much thought to. The problem is that many people don’t think about the public health sector or its entities until they need it or must rely upon it. If this situation comes up or the public health sector comes into the public eye, then it’s through media attention and often means that there is a problem. If the health of the public has been compromised, then everybody turns their attention to this body very quickly. So what exactly is the future of the public health sector?
There Must Be More Attention to Them
Unfortunately for the public health sector it is not just the actual general public that forgets about them or neglects to pay them the attention that they deserve. Even key government officials tend to take this body for granted—that is until there is a problem. It becomes quite evident that in the face of a real crisis or health problem that help is required. Though the agencies do whatever they can, there is always more help required to get them to where they need to be. Unfortunately this reality comes at a time when crisis is underway and little can be done, but the consensus is that more focus must be given to the public health sectors and the agencies that embody it. It is hopeful that with recent health problems and more focused attention that things will change for the better in this capacity.
More Budget is Required
Though you hear from nearly all agencies and public sectors that more funding is required, this is quite truthful here. More budget is required for proper testing before there is a problem, to see what sort of resolutions can be found. More budget is required to hire more people to help with the work that is required, both before the time of a crisis and after. As we saw in the H1N1 epidemic, more research would have been helpful in determining what sort of immunizations could have been required. Additional budget would help greatly in this capacity and allow the necessary work to be done.
More Preventative Care is Required
One thing that all areas of public health can agree upon is the fact that more preventative care is required. Though there are some efforts underway to support this point, there isn’t enough and that’s where much of the problem comes in. If people are properly taking care of themselves then many of the health problems that we face wouldn’t come up as readily. If people were better educated and knew the proper steps to take in order to care for themselves, then things would be much easier to control. The public health sector hopes to make strides in the notion of preventative care and introducing it as a reality for all citizens.
